About John

Background and what drives John

John Miller is the founder of Argus Cybersecurity and Support, a managed security services provider focused on helping small and mid-sized organizations get enterprise-grade protection without enterprise-sized complexity. He came into cybersecurity the way many operators do: by living through the day-to-day reality of keeping systems running, responding to incidents at all hours, and seeing firsthand how one missed patch or misconfigured setting could put an entire business at risk. Over time, that experience across Microsoft 365, Azure, Active Directory, and network infrastructure evolved into a clear mission: to build a service that doesn’t just “fix IT problems,” but actively reduces risk and keeps clients resilient against modern threats.

With a background that blends accounting/finance and technical operations, John brings an unusual mix of skills to cybersecurity. He understands how downtime impacts cash flow, how compliance failures affect audits and insurance, and how to translate technical risk into business language owners and executives actually care about. That perspective shapes everything he does at Argus, from building security stacks around NGAV, DNS and web filtering, and EDR, to designing reporting that shows clients not just what happened, but what it means to their business.

What drives John is the conviction that smaller organizations deserve the same level of protection and strategic guidance as much larger enterprise, but delivered in a practical, right-sized way. He’s seen too many companies burned by bolt-on tools, one-and-done projects, and “set it and forget it” IT. Argus exists to be the opposite of that: a proactive security partner that quietly hardens environments, closes gaps before attackers find them, and gives business owners the confidence that someone is always watching their blind spots.

Philosophy, client approach, and vision for Argus

John’s philosophy on cybersecurity is simple: security has to be built into how a business operates, not slapped on afterward. He anchors Argus’s work in proven frameworks like CIS, NIST CSF, and HIPAA requirements where relevant, but always adapts them to the realities of each client’s size, budget, and risk profile. For him, good security is practical, measurable, and explainable. If a client can’t understand why a control matters or how it reduces risk, the job isn’t done.

Relationships sit at the center of John’s approach. He invests the time to learn each client’s environment, constraints, and business model so that recommendations never feel generic or “off the shelf.” Whether he is tuning policies in Microsoft 365, hardening firewalls, or working through an incident response plan, John’s focus is on clear communication, realistic roadmaps, and building trust through consistent follow-through.

John’s vision for Argus is to be the long-term security partner that growing organizations can lean on as their needs evolve. That means continuously refining the Argus stack, staying ahead of emerging threats and regulations, and expanding services around advanced monitoring, automation, and user training. Over time, he aims to make Argus synonymous with calm in the middle of chaos: the team you call when something has gone wrong. The team that quietly helped prevent the worst from happening in the first place.
